There are millions of skincare on the market nowadays and we probably have purchased a lot of them, including cleanser, day cream, night cream, and so on. Many of us may have asked which one is to be put first, sunscreen or moisturizer, or serum. So here is our recommendation on skincare routine:
Morning routine:
- Cleanser: use a gentle cleanser to cleanse the face and neck.
- Toner or spray: apply it after cleansing to correct skin pH and prepare the skin for its treatment products.
- Treatment serum/cream: apply day cream/serum all over the face and neck.
- Eye cream: apply a small amount of eye cream around the orbital bone only.
- Moisturiser: apply moisturizer suitable for your skin type over the face and neck.
- Sunscreen minimum SPF 30+: sunscreen is the most important skincare. The majority of premature aging and skin problems is caused by sun exposure, so make sure you put your sunscreen on every day and reapply it as necessary.
- Makeup: lastly put your makeup if you are wearing.
Note: If your makeup or moisturizer contains SPF you may skip step 6, providing it has a minimum of SPF 30.
Evening routine:
- Cleanser: cleanse eye and lip makeup with makeup cleanser, then use a gentle cleanser all over the face and neck. Double cleansing is recommended to ensure all dirt and impurities are removed. If using a treatment cleanser like glycolic or lactic acid cleanser, do it after the double cleansing with a gentle cleanser.
- Exfoliant: exfoliate your clean skin once or twice a week. Exfoliation will ensure the removal of dead skin cells from the surface layer of our skin.
- Mask: mask will hydrate and gives extra protection to our skin from any potential environmental harsh. Do it once a week.
- Toner or spray: apply it on clean skin to correct pH and prepare the skin for its treatment products.
- Treatment serum/cream: apply a night cream/serum all over the face and neck. Follow the instruction from the manufacturer or your skin specialists. Some treatment serum like Retinol (Vitamin A) may be put every other evening for the first few weeks.
- Eye cream: apply a small amount of eye cream around the orbital bone only.
- Moisturiser: apply moisturizer suitable for your skin type over the face and neck.
You may not use all the mentioned products, but it is very important to know the step of applying your skincare. It is recommended to wait for about five 5 minutes between applications to give enough time for a product to be absorbed. For example, if you only use cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen; cleanse your face first, followed by moisturizer, leave it for 5 minutes then apply sunscreen in the daytime.
To correct a skin concern, you need a treatment cream or serum. Our favorite active ingredients to treat aging signs are Vitamin C for the day and Retinol for the night. For acne, products with glycolic and salicylic acid are among our favorites. Talk to a skin experts to find out the best cosmeceuticals products suitable for your skin.
Have a good skin with a good skincare routine…
